Odisha Govt Approves ₹730 Cr Scheme to Provide Uniforms to 70 Lakh SHG Members

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s cabinet led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved a significant initiative aimed at empowering women through Mission Shakti. The proposal entails providing financial assistance to self-help groups (SHGs) and their leaders for purchasing uniforms. A budget of Rs. 730 crore has been allocated for this purpose during the fiscal year 2023-24.

This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and the transformation of SHGs into influential entities fostering economic growth and social progress. Each of the 70 lakh SHG members will receive Rs. 1,000 for purchasing uniforms, while 1.5 lakh SHG leaders will receive Rs. 2,000 each for acquiring blazers.

Mission Shakti, a flagship program championed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has been instrumental in reshaping societal norms and promoting women’s participation in economic activities. It has emerged as a prominent model for women’s empowerment nationwide, aligning with the state’s 5T initiative. Through strategic investments in SHG infrastructure and innovative collaborations across various government departments, Odisha has successfully bolstered women’s entrepreneurial endeavours.

Secretary Sujata R Karthikeyan emphasized that Mission Shakti’s initiatives have facilitated women’s entry into emerging sectors, fostering economic independence and societal transformation.
