Odisha CM Inaugurates State-Of-The-Art Baramunda ISBT in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal at Baramunda today. The newly inaugurated interstate bus terminal (ISBT) is named in honour of BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Chief Minister Patnaik emphasized that the terminal aims to enhance passenger experience and stands as a significant landmark in Odisha. A gallery within the terminal showcases BR Ambedkar’s remarkable contributions to the nation.

Expressing gratitude to stakeholders, including bus owners, shopkeepers, and passengers, the Chief Minister highlighted their cooperation in constructing the terminal. Equipped with modern amenities such as a commercial complex, escalators, waiting rooms, police outpost, and food courts, the terminal spans approximately 17 acres of land. It can accommodate up to 30,000 passengers and 700-800 buses daily.

The inauguration witnessed the flag-off of bus services from the terminal, with Chief Minister Patnaik personally serving food to passengers at the Aahaar centre. Prominent figures including Housing and Urban Development Minister Usha Devi and Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda attended the event.

With 44 active bus bays and ample parking space, the terminal offers convenience to commuters. Additional facilities include dormitories, drinking water kiosks, cloakrooms, and pre-paid auto-rickshaw services. The first floor houses a multi-cuisine food court, Aahaar centre, and a gallery dedicated to BR Ambedkar’s life and work. The terminal also boasts 122 shops and parking for auto-rickshaws, taxis, and two-wheelers.

The event was graced by officials such as MLAs Ananta Narayan Jena and Sushant Rout, Mayor Sulochana Das, and 5T Chairman VK Pandian. H&UD Department Additional Chief Secretary G. Mathi Vathanan extended the welcome, while Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice-Chairman Balwant Singh delivered the vote of thanks.
