Odisha CM to Inaugurate Airport in Remote Malkangiri in January

Bhubaneswar: Malkangiri, Odisha’s most remote southernmost district will be connected by air traffic as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is to inaugurate Malkangiri Airport in January, informed Special Secretary to CM, Vineel Krishna.

Vineel Krishna posted on X, “A dream come true. This board fills my heart with great joy. The farthest district is being connected by scheduled flights soon. Hon’ble CM will be landing at the Malkangiri airport and inaugurate in early January. What a sight that would be ….”

This airport is envisioned to be a major catalyst in the economic development of this tribal-dominated Maoist-prone district. The Malkangiri airport has been built on over 94.5 hectares at an expenditure of around Rs 33 crore.

After the Gurupriya bridge, inaugurated in 2018 by the CM, this airport is the second major connectivity project in the Malkangiri district. The Gurupriya bridge provided direct road communication between mainland Odisha and Swabhiman Anchal (cut-off areas of the district).
