Opposition MPs Stage Overnight Dharna over Manipur Situation

New Delhi: With placards of ‘India for Manipur’ in hand, leaders from Opposition parties, staged a protest throughout the night. The protestors included MPs from the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Trinamool Congress (TMC).

According to the TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale, the Opposition MPs also protested showing “solidarity” with AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who was suspended for the remaining duration of the Monsoon session for “merely asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi” to speak on the Manipur violence issue in Parliament.

The message of Saket Gokhale on X (earlier Twitter) said, “We, MPs, from across parties of Team INDIA took turns to sit together in solidarity with AAP MP Sanjay Singh through the entire night after he was shockingly and unfairly suspended merely for asking PM Modi to discuss Manipur in Parliament.”

Continuing violence in Manipur and a viral video of two women being paraded naked in the ethnic violence torn state’s  Kangpokpi district has led to a INDIA vs NDA faceoff in the Parliament.

The proceedings in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been disrupted frequently, with the Opposition creating an uproar over the matter. The government has said it is ready for a debate, insisting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will speak on the issue. The Opposition, however, has insisted that a statement be made by PM Modi and a complete day to be devoted for discussion on Manipur.
