Parliament in Chaos: 45 Rajya Sabha Opposition MPs, 33 Lok Sabha MPs Suspended for Disruptions

New Delhi: Parliament’s Winter Session has plunged into unprecedented chaos, with the Rajya Sabha suspending a staggering 45 Opposition members for disrupting proceedings. This decisive action comes hot on the heels of 33 suspensions in the Lok Sabha, as both Houses grapple with mounting protests triggered by the December 13 security breach.

Prominent Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, and KC Venugopal are among the Rajya Sabha’s 45 suspended members. 34 will face the full brunt of the Winter session’s remaining duration, while the fate of 11 hangs in the balance, awaiting the Privileges Committee’s verdict.

The source of the pandemonium lies in the Opposition’s persistent demand for a government statement regarding the December 13 security breach. Repeated adjournments punctuated by sloganeering and protests have marred the session, prompting Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to issue a desperate plea for adherence to parliamentary decorum.

“The dignity of this institution must be upheld,” declared Dhankhar, his voice strained under the weight of the tumultuous environment. “Let us not forget the oath we have taken to serve the people through constructive dialogue and debate.”

This escalation marks a dramatic deterioration in Parliament’s atmosphere since the security breach incident. Last week, similar disruptions led to the suspension of 14 Opposition members in both Houses. With tensions now at an all-time high, the fate of the remaining Winter session hangs precariously in the balance.
