PM Modi Addresses Indian Diaspora in Sydney, Strengthening India-Australia Bonds

Sydney: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, received a warm welcome as they arrived at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. PM Modi addressed a gathering of the Indian diaspora, who had gathered in large numbers at Sydney Olympic Park. Emphasizing the bond of mutual trust and respect between India and Australia, PM Modi expressed his commitment to fulfilling his promise of not making the Indian community in Australia wait for another 28 years to see their Prime Minister.

During his speech, PM Modi highlighted the election of Sameer Pandey as the Lord Mayor of Parramatta and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Albanese for renaming Harris Park as “Little India.”

Referring to the evolving India-Australia relationship, PM Modi noted that it has moved beyond the traditional association of the Commonwealth, cricket, and curry. He mentioned the new defining factors as democracy, diaspora, dosti (friendship), and the current emphasis on energy, economy, and education.

Acknowledging the contribution of the Indian community in Australia, PM Modi attributed the development of mutual trust and respect to their efforts. He highlighted the connections established through shared interests like yoga, cricket, tennis, films, and even culinary delights such as Chatkazz’s “Chaat” and “Jalebi” from Jaipur Sweets at Harris Park.

PM Modi also announced the upcoming opening of a new Indian Consulate in Brisbane, further strengthening bilateral ties. Addressing India’s economic growth, he cited the International Monetary Fund’s recognition of India as a bright spot in the global economy and the World Bank’s acknowledgement of India’s ability to withstand global headwinds. PM Modi expressed India’s aspirations to become a developed nation in the next 25 years, while also praising the strength of India’s banking system.

Further, PM Modi urged the Indian diaspora to introduce their Australian friends and relatives to Indian culture by bringing them along on their visits to India. Australian Prime Minister Albanese praised PM Modi, comparing his reception to that of Bruce Springsteen, and referred to him as “the boss.” The event featured traditional welcome ceremonies, cultural programs, and discussions with Australian CEOs and artists.

Prominent personalities, including singer Anup Jalota, expressed their admiration for PM Modi and his leadership, even mentioning the positive sentiments towards him in Pakistan. Artist Danielle Mate highlighted the potential for collaboration between India and Australia in creative fields and their cultural similarities. Nobel laureate Brian Paul Schmidt praised India’s investment in science and PM Modi’s leadership, stating that India’s scientific capabilities have significantly improved.
