Rs 9 Cr Worth Ganja Plantation Destroyed in Gajapati Dist

Paralakhemundi: Illegal ganja plantations worth around Rs 9 crore were destroyed in the Mohana area of Mohana’s Gajapati district on Thursday during a joint operation by the police and the excise Department.

According to sources, these illicit hemp plantations were near the Bom village of Juka panchayat under Mohana police station limits.

Acting on intelligence reports, a joint raid was conducted in the area to root out the illegal cannabis cultivation.

During the raid around 90,000 ganja plants grown over 45 acres of land were destroyed by setting them on fire.

Every year, police and the excise department take up similar raids against illegal ganja plantations in south Odisha districts. But cannabis cultivation still continues in extremely remote pockets of districts like Gajapati, Kandhamal and Malkangiri.
