Shubman Gill Named ICC ‘Player Of The Month’ For September 2023

Star Indian opener Shubman Gill clinched the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September 2023, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Gill’s remarkable performance in September, where he amassed 480 ODI runs at an impressive average of 80, secured him this prestigious recognition.

Gill outshone competitors like fast bowler Mohammed Siraj and England’s opener Dawid Malan to secure the award. During the Asia Cup, he demonstrated his prowess by scoring 302 runs at an average of 75.5.

Prior to the World Cup, Gill’s form remained exceptional, as he amassed 178 runs in two innings against Australia in the ODI series at home. His century against Australia (104) in the second ODI and a dazzling ton against Bangladesh (121) during the Asia Cup highlighted his incredible talent.

Notably, Gill also registered three half-centuries in the previous month and was dismissed for less than fifty runs in just two of his eight innings. Currently ranked No. 2 in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Gill boasts an impressive ODI record, amassing 1917 runs in 35 games with an average of 66.1 and a striking strike rate of 102.84.

Although Gill was unfortunately sidelined due to illness in India’s opening matches of the Cricket World Cup, he remains a pivotal figure in their quest to lift the trophy for the first time since 2011.

Responding to his award, Gill expressed his delight, saying, “I am thrilled to receive the ICC Player of the Month award for September. Representing India at the international level is a great privilege, and I am dedicated to contributing to the team’s success. This award serves as further motivation for me to continue striving for excellence and making our country proud.”

Gill also extended his gratitude to his teammates, family, and coaches, acknowledging their crucial role in his achievement.
