“Sorceror” Hospitalized After Sucking Poison from Woman Dead of Snake Bite

Keonjhar: A self-proclaimed female “sorcerer” endangered her life and was hospitalized when because of superstitious belief she tried to suck out the poison from a woman, who had died of a snake bite in the Keonjhar district of Odisha.

This incident hinting at the superstitious beliefs continuing in rural areas occurred at Jhanjhana village under Soso police limits on Sunday evening.

According to reports, when a woman named Jhunurani of the village was bitten by a poisonous snake, the superstitious villagers did not take her to a hospital. They took the woman to the Mangala temple to get her cured by the black magic of a self-proclaimed sorcerer named Minati Dehuri.

But Minati’s hocus pocus had no impact on the dead woman. Then as a last resort, Minati tried to suck out the poison from Junurani’s wound with her mouth.

This did not make the dead woman alive. But the sorcerer became sick after sucking the poisoned blood of the victim.

Then only the superstitious villagers came to their senses and rushed both women to the Anandpur Medical Center. Doctors at the hospital declared Jhunurani ‘brought dead’. The condition of the so-called sorcerer Minati Dehuri is said to be critical.
