Superstitious Belief in Sorcery Led to Kalahandi Triple Murder, Culprit Arrested

Bhawanipatna: The accused involved in the triple murder in the Junagarh area of Kalahandi district was arrested four days after the discovery of the bodies. The deceased included a woman and her minor son. Briefing newsmen, the Dharmagarh DSP Dhiraj Kumar Chopdar said the arrested accused in this triple murder case in the Junagarh area was Mahendra Majhi. The murder weapon, a knife was also seized from his possession.

The investigation has proved that superstitious belief in sorcery led to this triple murder. The accused Mahendra had lost a relative recently. The accused, because of his superstitious belief suspected that sorcery practised by the deceased woman caused his death.

Mahendra killed the woman to take revenge. He also murdered her minor son and an old man as they were with her.

The bodies of the three deceased were found near Shankarpalli under Junagarh station limits on October 1. The deceased included a 35-year-old woman from Shankarpalli, her 2-year-old son and her neighbour.
