Superstitious Brother-In-Law, Nephew Kill Woman Alleging Her to be Sorcery Practitioner in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: A married woman identified as Minati Murmu was brutally murdered by her superstitious brother-in-law and nephew, who alleged her to be a sorcery practitioner in Lahandakocha village under Jharpokharia police station limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

According to police sources, the two accused allegedly attacked the woman with sharp weapons. According to the complaint lodged by Bolai Murmu, the husband of the deceased, in the recent past, some villagers as well as his brother and nephew used to allege that Minati was practicing witchcraft which was the reason behind ill luck and ailments of many in the village.

Bolai informed the police about the murder and alleged that his brother and nephew were behind the crime. Police have started an investigation and the two accused are being searched for. They have absconded from the village after allegedly killing Minati.
