Tikait’s BKU Defers Protest After Agitating Wrestlers Meet Amit Shah

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and khap leaders have decided to defer their proposed agitation in support of the wrestlers protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh. They had planned to have their protest demonstration on June 9 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The plan of agitation was postponed after the protesting wrestlers met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 3, said BKU leader Rakesh Tikait.

“Now, the protest will happen depending upon the outcome of the talks between the wrestlers and the government and the next course of action by the protesting wrestlers,” he added.

Rakesh Tikait had given an ultimatum to the Central government till June 9 to arrest Brij Bhushan Saran Singh, against whom women grapplers have brought allegations of sexual harassment.

On June 1, a khap mahapanchayat was held in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar in which it was decided that a delegation would meet President Droupadi Murmu to seek justice for the wrestlers demanding action against Brij Bhushan Singh.

On May 30, protesting wrestlers were dissuaded by Tikait and other farmer leaders from immersing their medals in the river Ganga.
