UTP Attempts Suicide in Keonjhar Jail, Dies in SCB Med College

Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner, who allegedly attempted suicide at Keonjhar district jail on Friday, died during treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ajay Das(25) of Bhodabahali village under Keonjhar Sadar police station limits. He was in judicial custody after being arrested for misbehaving with a minor girl.

He tried to end his life by hanging himself from a pipe connecting a septic tank inside the jail at 1.20 pm on Friday. He was rescued by the jail warders in serious condition. Initially he was rushed to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital. Later he was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, he succumbed at the hospital.
