RPF Constable Opens Fire on Running Train, 4 Killed Including ASI

Mumbai: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Chetan Kumar Choudhary, opened fire on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train on Monday, killing 4 people.

The incident took place near Palghar, around 100 km from Mumbai. The victims included an RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and three other passengers.

Choudhary was on escorting duty when he fired his official weapon, killing ASI Tika Ram Meena, his in-charge. He then proceeded to another compartment and shot three passengers.

The accused constable was later apprehended by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel between Mira Road and Dahisar. His weapon was confiscated.

Authorities believe that Choudhary may have been suffering from mental instability. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

The Western Railway issued a statement acknowledging the unfortunate incident and confirming the arrest of the constable responsible for the shooting. The families of the victims have been contacted, and ex-gratia will be provided.

As the investigation continues, the RPF is cooperating with the authorities.
