After Jailed in Dubai for 18 Yrs, Five Telangana Men Return India to Reunite With Families

Hyderabad: Five persons from Telangana, who spent 18 years in a Dubai jail returned home to their families.  A video clip of their reunion, facilitated by BRS leader KT Rama Rao, is now viral on social media.

In 2005, Shivarathri Mallesh, Shivarathri Ravi, Gollem Nampally, Dundugula Laxman, and Shivarathri Hanmanthu, from Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district, were accused of the death of a Nepali national in Dubai. They were convicted and sentenced 25 years of prison sentences.

According to the BRS post, the former Telangana minister KTR tried hard for the release of these jailed Indians. In 2011, he visited Nepal and met with the victim’s family and presented them with a financial compensation of Rs 15 lakh.

In Dubai, the initial amnesty petition of these five jailed men was rejected by the Dubai court.

In September 2023, minister KTR, with the assistance of the Union Ministry of External Affairs, secured an audience with the ruler of Dubai Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to plead for amnesty in the case.

At last the mercy petition of these five men was approved and weeks of negotiations ended in their release from jail.
