Chhattisgarh: Over 50 Fall Ill Due to Food Poisoning After Consuming Leftover Food

Surajpur (Chhattisgarh): As many as 50 people fell sick after eating leftover food which was prepared for a post-death ritual at a village in a village in the Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

The food was ingested on Sunday morning in Vishunpur village, which is part of the Ramanujnagar development block, by the victims, according to Surajpur Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr RS Singh. The victims had symptoms similar to food poisoning.

All of them were then admitted to the Surajpur district hospital, where it was determined that they were all in stable condition.

The CMHO stated that they had consumed the remaining food that had been prepared on Saturday night for the “Dasgatra” (tenth-day ceremony following a person’s death).

Over 50 people, including women and children, complained of nausea and other symptoms similar to food poisoning two to three hours after eating the food, at which point they were sent to the local hospital, the official added.

He stated that an inquiry was being conducted to determine the precise cause of the food poisoning.
