New Delhi: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Delhi Police to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). According to the information provided by the Delhi Police to a special court on Friday, this development comes after the court had directed the police to file a status report, which has now been submitted in a sealed cover.
The prosecutor stated that the SIT was formed due to the seriousness of the case. Earlier, wrestlers had filed a plea seeking monitoring of the investigation and recording of the statement of the alleged victims before the court, in response to which the Delhi Police was issued a notice.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 27. The submission made by the Delhi Police before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal in response to the court’s earlier order directing the police to file a status report, stated that a status report had been filed in the matter.
The prosecutor requested that the report must not be shared with anyone considering the nature of the case. The report has been filed by the Delhi Police in a sealed cover.
This is a significant development in the case, and the formation of the SIT demonstrates the seriousness of the allegations made against Brij Bhushan Singh. It remains to be seen what the SIT’s investigation will uncover and whether charges will be filed against the WFI president.
