Army Colonel, Major and DSP Succumb to Injuries in Anantnag Encounter

Anantnag: A deadly gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. The encounter claimed the lives of an Army Colonel, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The casualties included Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, and DSP Humayun Bhat, who were critically injured during the intense firefight and later succumbed to their injuries. These brave officers were leading a mission based on specific intelligence to locate and neutralize terrorists in the area.

The Indian Army’s Rajasthan Rifles unit Commanding Officer, Colonel Manpreet Singh, and a Company Commander, Major Ashish, were at the forefront of this operation. Additionally, a Jammu and Kashmir Police official lost his life during this encounter.

Top-ranking officials, including J&K DGP Dilbag Singh and ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, rushed to the scene to oversee the operation. The encounter between security forces and terrorists is still ongoing at the time of this report.

In a separate incident, security forces successfully neutralized two terrorists in the Narla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. This operation followed a credible tip-off regarding the presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in the region.
