DK Shivakumar Agrees To Power-Sharing Formula, But On Specific Terms: Reports

New Delhi: As discussions and meetings to select the next Chief Minister of Karnataka continue, it has been reported that the state Congress chief, DK Shivakumar, has reached a power-sharing agreement with senior leader Siddaramaiah.

However, if reports in the media are to be believed, Shivakumar insists on holding the top post for the first half of the five-year term.

The decision regarding the next Chief Minister is eagerly awaited by the people of Karnataka, and it is expected to be announced by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the coming days. The two main contenders for the position are DK Shivakumar and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The Congress party emerged victorious in the recently concluded Karnataka Assembly election, securing a decisive mandate by winning 135 out of 224 seats.

As negotiations continue, both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah have been instructed to avoid making any statements or gestures that could cause embarrassment to the party. The Congress party is committed to reaching a consensus and exploring various options and formulas for power-sharing.

The selection process for the next Chief Minister has been a challenging task for the Congress party since the declaration of the election results.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finished as a distant second with 66 seats, while the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) won only 19 seats, falling short of its ambition to play the role of kingmaker in the state.
