Kerala Mother-Son Duo On Clould Nine After Clearing PSC Together

Thiruvananthapuram: People say there is no age for education and learning. And this quote has been proven by a mother-son duo in Kerala’s Mallapuram district.

This is the success story of 42-year-old woman Bindu and her 24-year-old son Vivek. Both have cleared the Public Service Commission (PSC) exam together.

While Bindu passed the Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC) exam with a rank of 38, her son passed the Last Grade Servants (LGS) test with a rank of 92.

This was Bindu’s fourth attempt at the Kerala PSC examination and she said that she was the perfect example of how perseverance ultimately pays off.

” I didn’t study continuously. I had studied only Six months before the test date. After that, I used to take a break until the announcement of the following round of tests three years later. These pauses were the reason that I failed to pass exams in the past. And studying with my son encouraged me to clear the examination,” Bindu said.

“When my son was in class 10, I started reading books to encourage him, but it also inspired me to get ready for the Kerala PSC exams. In nine years, I and my son are all set to take up a government job together,” she added.

Overwhelmed after getting success, Bindu’s son Vivek said, “We went together to coaching classes. My mother brought me to this and my father arranged all facilities for us. We got a lot of motivation from our teachers. We both studied together but never thought that we will qualify together. We’re both very happy.”

It is pertinent to be mentioned that stream-2 posts in Kerala have the maximum age of 40, with some relaxations for certain categories as well.

The relaxation is for three years in the OBC category, while it is five years for SC and ST and widows. For the differently-abled (speech, hearing, and vision), the relaxation in the Stream 2 PSC exam is for 15 years while it is 10 years for the differently-abled orthopedically.
