UP Woman Alleges Rape by Father-in-Law and Abandonment by Husband

Muzaffarnagar: A 26-year-old woman in Muzaffarnagar has accused her father-in-law of raping her while her husband was away from home. The woman, who got married just last year, filed a complaint with the police on September 7.

The woman claims that she was sexually assaulted and subjected to threats and physical violence by her father-in-law on August 5. She says that she mustered the courage to confide in her husband about the incident, but he refused to support her and expelled her from their shared residence.

The woman is currently residing with her parents. She is seven months pregnant, but this detail was omitted from her initial complaint to the police.

The police have registered a case against the father-in-law and the husband under the relevant legal provisions. An investigation is underway.

The accused father-in-law has denied the allegations, saying that the woman is trying to extort money from his family.

This incident is similar to a case from June 2005, where a 28-year-old mother of five accused her father-in-law of rape. In that case, the local community panchayat banned the woman from cohabiting with her husband and instructed her to treat him as her son.

The case of the 26-year-old woman in Muzaffarnagar has sparked outrage and calls for justice. The police have assured that they will take the matter seriously and ensure that the woman gets justice.
