Navjot Singh Sidhu walks out of Patiala Jail after 10 months

New Delhi: After spending ten months in prison, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was released today. Donning a blue kurta and turban, Siddhu was seen walking out of Patiala Central Jail with a book in his hand.

Several Congress leaders and supporters were gathered outside the Patiala Jail to accord the 59-year-old former cricketer a grand welcome upon his release. They were seen with dhols and also chanted ‘Navjot Sidhu zindabad’.

Several posters and hoardings of Navjot Sidhu were put up at many places in Patiala city by Sidhu’s supporters to welcome him.

According to his lawyer, the release is happening earlier due to Navjot Sidhu’s good conduct during imprisonment, as allowed under the rules.

The former state Congress chief was jailed on May 20 last year after being sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court over the death of 65-year-old Gurnam Singh in a road rage case in 1988.
