New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system for transcribing court proceedings. This move aims to ensure accurate documentation of statements and enhance accountability and transparency within the court system.
Several prominent companies and institutes have expressed their interest in the project during the pre-bid queries meeting held on June 12. Notable participants include AWS, Google, Jio, Cloudstrats, Jupitice, Bharat Electronics, IIT Mandi, and IIT Kanpur. In this meeting, the companies presented their ideas and discussed the feasibility of the project with Supreme Court officials, gaining valuable insights into the challenges involved.
The objective of implementing an AI model is to provide transcriptions for both constitution benches and other court hearings, subject to bench approval. The generated transcriptions will be readily accessible through the court’s official website, enabling easy retrieval via commonly used devices.
To initiate the project, the Supreme Court has invited sealed bids from experienced and reputable firms and organizations. The bidding process will follow a three-cover system comprising Earnest Money Deposit, Technical Bid, and Financial Bid. Interested parties must submit their bids by the deadline of July 10. Afterwards, negotiations will take place, leading to the tender award, expected in August.
The introduction of AI in the Supreme Court marks a significant step toward leveraging technology to improve the efficiency and accuracy of court proceedings. By ensuring precise transcriptions and making them publicly accessible, the court aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the judicial system.
