Balasore Train Tragedy: Mamata Banerjee Announces Govt Jobs & Aid for Victims

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced government jobs for the families of those who lost their lives in the triple train crash in Balasore, Odisha. She also stated that relatives of individuals who lost their limbs in the accident will be provided with government jobs. The Chief Minister further mentioned that financial assistance will be given to the passengers who experienced physical and mental trauma during the incident.

To address the needs of the injured passengers, Mamata Banerjee will be visiting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday to meet those recuperating in different hospitals. There are currently 206 injured passengers from West Bengal admitted to various hospitals in Odisha, with 33 in critical condition in Cuttack hospitals. The Chief Minister will be accompanied by Bengal ministers and senior officers during her visit.

The distribution of aid checks and appointment letters to the victims’ families will take place on Wednesday. Mamata Banerjee emphasized that her focus is on providing assistance and support to the injured passengers and their families, and she does not wish to engage in any political discussions regarding the accident.

Earlier, the Chief Minister cancelled her scheduled trip to Darjeeling in order to oversee the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured passengers from West Bengal. The restored railway tracks were successfully used by a coal-laden goods train and the first high-speed passenger train, Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat Express.

Investigations into the triple train crash are ongoing, with authorities examining potential factors such as human error and signal failure as potential causes.
