Wrestlers Move SC Seeking Registration Of FIR Against WFI Chief

New Delhi: Following allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and seven other individuals filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking for the filing of an FIR against him.

A writ petition (under Article 32) has been submitted on behalf of the wrestlers, including one minor. The Delhi Police Commissioner has asked for directions in order to file an FIR against the WFI chief.

The petition claims that despite serious charges, such as POCSO (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences), being brought against the WFI president, there was an excessive delay in registering the FIR against him.

The ongoing conflict between the wrestlers and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has continued for around three months now.

On April 23, wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat resumed their protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

In a separate tweet, Phogat stated that despite numerous attempts, no FIR had been filed against the WFI president with the Delhi Police.
