132-Year-Old Tunnel Found in Mumbai Hospital

Mumbai: An 132-year-old tunnel of British era was unearthed under the Sir Jamsetji Jeejeebhoy Hospital in Mumbai.

At first, a doctor of the hospital accidentally found a hole in the wall of the nursing college operating in this 175-year-old hospital. Suspecting that it may be leading to a tunnel, authorities were informed.  As per initial findings, this tunnel connected the former delivery and children’s wards of the Sir JJ Hospital. This newly discovered tunnel is around 200 meters long and it has brick walls. As per a stone plank found at the spot, this tunnel may have been constructed in 1890.

Buildings of this hospital were built around 177 years back. They were erected jointly by Sir Jamsetji Jeejeebhoy and Sir Robert Grant.

In 2016, a similar tunnel of British times had been located at the Maharashtra Raj Bhavan in Malabar Hill area of Mumbai.
