A Female Cheetah Dies in Kuno National Park; 3rd Death in Recent Months

Bhopal: A South African female cheetah, Daksha, released in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, was killed in a fight with other cheetahs. This is the third cheetah to die in Kuno since the wild cats were brought from South Africa and Namibia.

Since 2022, twenty cheetahs were brought to the Kuno National Park. Two of them died in March and April. Sasha, a captive-bred Cheetah, died in March from a kidney ailment. In April, the second Cheetah, Uday, died during treatment.

Five more cheetahs including three females and two males will be released from the acclimatization camps into conditions in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park (KNP) before the onset of the monsoon in June, informed the Union Environment Ministry on Monday.

The cheetahs brought from South Africa and Namibia are being released in the Kuno National Park as part of the cheetah reintroduction programme.
