Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will take up a comprehensive survey of the socio-economic and educational status of people belonging to backward classes in the state. The deadline for completion of this survey is July 12.
Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes (OSCBC) issued guidelines and timelines for this survey to all district collectors on February 24. The collectors have been directed to prepare and send district survey management plan, containing district profile, information on survey centres, enumerators, supervisors, and other survey-related officers, along with their deployment to the Commission. The collectors will have to send this to the commission by the first week of March.
After Bihar, Odisha is the second state to opt for a survey of the socioeconomic conditions of people from backward classes. Odisha government had earlier decided to conduct this survey in May and June 2021. But the COVID pandemic delayed the process.
In Odisha, people from backward classes are believed to be around 54% of the state population.
It is claimed that this survey will help in the formulation of effective policies for the development of backward classes. There are 231 socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) communities in Odisha.
