Centre Issues New Anti-Tobacco Guidelines for OTT Platforms; India Becomes Global Trendsetter

New Delhi: Union Health Ministry issued new guidelines for anti-tobacco notices on OTT platforms. As per the new directive, the OTT platforms are required to carry anti-tobacco warning messages. If this order is not obeyed then the Union Health Ministry and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will impose heavy penalties on the publisher of online content disobeying the new regulations.

This directive was issued on World No-Tobacco Day. India will be a global trendsetter through such a policy.

This notification will mandate OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar to carry anti-tobacco warning messages like we see in movies screened in theatres and TV programs.

The same set of rules followed by movies released in theatres will be applicable to the OTT platforms as well.
