Dalit Woman Raped and Torched in Rajasthan’s Barmer

Jaipur: A Dalit woman was allegedly tried to be burnt alive after her rape in Rajasthan’s Barmer district.

Rajasthan police on Friday said the victim suffered 40 per cent burn injuries. She is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Jodhpur.

This gruesome incident occurred in the Pachpadra Police Station area on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Shakoor has been arrested. He allegedly raped the woman and then poured some inflammable chemical on her before setting her on fire.

Shakoor lived near the victim’s house. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the police added.
