Delhi HC Notice to Yasin Malik as NIA Demands Death Sentence for Him

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to separatist leader Yasin Malik following an appeal by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) urging that he be awarded the death penalty.

Delhi High Court issued production warrant for Yasin Malik to be present before the Court on the next date of hearing on Aug 9, 2023.

“Considering the record and circumstances that the respondent pleaded guilty interalia to charge under 121 IPC that stipulates among others punishment of death; the delay in refiling the appeal is condoned,” the High Court bench said.

On May 26, the NIA approached the Delhi High Court seeking the death penalty for Malik. The NIA appealed before the High Court that not giving a death sentence to such a “dreaded terrorist” will result in the miscarriage of justice.

In 2022, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief was awarded a life imprisonment by a trial court in a terror funding case.
