Facebook posts hailing Pulwama attack lands youth in jail

Bengaluru: A youth has landed in jail because of his anti-national Facebook posts. This 22-year-old youth named Faiz Rashid was punished with five years imprisonment and 25,000 rupees fine by a special court in Bengaluru for his derogatory remarks on Facebook following the terrorist attack on CRPF jawans in Pulwama in 2019.

The accused was a 19-year-old engineering student when he committed this crime. Rashid had hailed the Pulwama terrorist attack and mocked the Indian Army through 23 comments he had made on various posts of media outlets related to the gruesome terrorist attack.

The court in its recent judgment pointed out that the accused had made the posts and comments with the intention to disrupt the sovereignty and integrity of India. His comments also proved that he felt happy with the killings of CRPF jawans in the Pulwama terrorist attack. He had celebrated the death of martyrs of the CRPF as if he himself was not an Indian.

Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad was involved in the Pulwama terrorist attack in 2019, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans. The recent judgment of the Bengaluru special court will be a caution for all who are resorting to anti-national posts in support of terrorists.
