Tusker Terror: Wild Elephant Enters Bhubaneswar to Cause Panic

Bhubaneswar: A wild stray tusker entered the capital city late Tuesday night panicking the city dwellers.

Forest officials and local police took immediate action to keep the tusker away from residential areas.

The pachyderm was reportedly first seen in the Dhauli area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar at around 12 AM.

later it was seen to be moving towards the Lingaraj temple region.

More than 60 members of the forest department and the local police kept track of the elephant while warning the public on loudspeakers to keep away from the stray wild tusker.

The wild elephant was last seen to be moving towards Pokhariput after crossing the Sundarpada rail tracks. At last forest officials could track it down near Aiginia. The wild pachyderm was tranquilised and captured.

“We were monitoring the movement of the tusker. It was in Pipili before it strayed into the city. Efforts are on to send it back into the wilds.” a senior forest official said.

“The tusker was in Puri district and has strayed into the Capital. It passed through Lingaraj Temple area and reached the Pokhariput region. We cannot deny the fact that elephants have started to reach the city, but we are helpless,” said the Assistant Conservator of Forests.

However, the forest officials were finally relieved when the tusker could be transquilised before it could cause any harm to any human.
