Mosquito Menace: BMC Launches Drone Service as its Last Weapon

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched drone service to put check on the mosquito menace in the capital city.

Using the drone, a certain type of chemical was sprayed from the sky at the Niladree Vihar area.

“The number of teams to carry out fogging has been increased, spraying of mosquito oil in drains has been intensified and now we have introduced drone service,” said BMC Commissioner Vijay Amrita Kulange.

“The drone will be used once a week. Since the severity of the mosquito menace is high in the city, we will engage another drone but only after seeing the effectiveness of our first step. We will also take feedback from the people of the area where medicine is being sprayed from the drone. If there is a result, we will go ahead,” he added.

Snaayou Healthcare Company of Kolkata was given the contract to conduct surveys of the mosquito breeding sites in Bhubaneswar. Small drones will be used to find out mosquito breeding sites, bigger drones will be used to spray chemicals.
