Naba Das Assassination: Life of Accused Gopal Das in Danger; Alleges LoP Jayanarayan Mishra

Bhubaneswar: BJP MLA and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in State Assembly, Jayanarayan Mishra raised doubts about the safety of Gopal Das, the accused who shot dead former health minister Naba Das.

Jayanarayan expressed deep concern over the safety of accused Gopal Das. He said, “Anything can happen to Gopal Das. I do not have faith in the Odisha police”. Govt will be responsible if anything happens to him, Jayanarayan added.

He demanded the Odisha government to recommend a CBI probe in the Naba Das murder case without any delay.

Earlier on Tuesday, he had demanded a CBI probe into the murder case. Jayanarayan Mishra attributed the murder to both political and business rivalry.

In a press conference, Jayanarayan said, “The police department must clarify how many mentally unstable officers are there. How was Gopal Das given a promotion, medals and a revolver if that was the case? The accused ASI was awarded in the past by the government and how come he become a foe of the government? ”

“Why is the DG silent over the issue? If a minister is not safe in the state, how can the government guarantee the safety of its people?” he asked.

“A drama was enacted for a day after his death. We are not interested in such grandma tales. It was a pre-planned murder and part of a bigger conspiracy that needs to be exposed,” he said.

“It is unclear what prompted the ASI to fire at the health minister from a close range. Therefore for an impartial investigation, the government should hand over the case to CBI,” he added.
