LoP Jayanarayan Mishra Gives up His PSO Expressing Lack of Faith on Odisha Police after Naba das Murder

Bhubaneswar: BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha assembly, Jayanarayan Mishra on Friday expressed his decision to give up the Personal Security Officer (PSO) provided to him. He claimed that he had lost faith on the Odisha Police after the murder of former state health minister Naba Das by a police officer. Naba Das was shot dead by a police ASI Gopal Das.

Earlier Jaynarayan Mishra had leveled serious allegations against police officers involved in the Crime Branch probe into the murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das. Jayanarayan expressed deep concern over the safety of accused Gopal Das. He said, “Anything can happen to Gopal Das. I do not have faith in the Odisha police”. Govt will be responsible if anything happens to him, Jayanarayan added. He had demanded central forces to be deployed for the security of Gopal Das.

He demanded the Odisha government to recommend a CBI probe in the Naba Das murder case without any delay.

The firebrand BJP leader claimed that the teams conducting the probe into Naba Das murder included three members against whom the CB is carrying out inquiry.

Earlier on Tuesday, he had demanded a CBI probe into the murder case. Jayanarayan Mishra attributed the murder to both political and business rivalry.

In a press conference, Jayanarayan said, “The police department must clarify how many mentally unstable officers are there. How was Gopal Das given a promotion, medals and a revolver if that was the case? The accused ASI was awarded in the past by the government and how come he become a foe of the government? ”

“Why is the DG silent over the issue? If a minister is not safe in the state, how can the government guarantee the safety of its people?” he asked.

“A drama was enacted for a day after his death. We are not interested in such grandma tales. It was a pre-planned murder and part of a bigger conspiracy that needs to be exposed,” he said.

“It is unclear what prompted the ASI to fire at the health minister from a close range. Therefore for an impartial investigation, the government should hand over the case to CBI,” he added.
