Bhubaneswar: In an attempt to stop deaths because of crocodile attacks and drowning, the Odisha government has decided to erect net fencing at 100 river ghats at a cost of Rs 2 crore.

The engineer-in-chief of the Water Resources department has been requested to initiate measures for provision of funds in the supplementary budget for 2023-24 for this purpose.

The engineer-in-chief in coordination with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) will identify the location where fences will be put up at river ghats.

At present net fences are being erected at the river ghats of crocodile-infested areas of Kendrapara district.

Since June this year, six persons have been killed by crocodiles in Kendrapara district.
