Onion Rs 220/Kg in Pakistan; Mustard Oil at Rs 532/Ltr

Commoners are having a harrowing time in Pakistan where the inflation rate is soaring high at rocket speed. In comparison to January 2022, onion prices in Pakistan rose by 501 percent. A year back onion was sold at Rs 36.7 per kg. Now price of onion in Pakistan is Rs 220.4 per kg.

The price of broiler chicken has increased by 82.5 per cent to reach Rs 383.5 per kg in this Islamic nation. Diesel prices rose by 61 per cent during the past year and the petrol rate increased by 48 per cent. The cost of rice, pulses, and wheat has also increased by nearly 50 per cent in 2022. Now mustard oil is being sold at Rs 532 per liter.

In December 2021 inflation in Pakistan was 12.3 per cent. It has reached 24.5 per cent in December 2022. In comparison to December 2021, the food inflation rate in Pakistan has tripled from 11.7 per cent to 32.7 per cent in December 2022.

The value of the Pakistani rupee was at 160.1 against the dollar in December 2020. It has weakened to 224.8 in December 2022.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pakistan is in a debt trap. Its total loan is estimated to have risen to 77.8 per cent of the GDP.
