Opposition MPs Call Off March to ED office on Adani issue after face-off with Delhi Police

New Delhi: The rally of MPs of 18 Opposition parties to the ED office to press for an investigation into the Adani issue was stopped by the Delhi Police near Parliament on Wednesday. The cops stopped the march soon after it started from Parliament.

When they could not march ahead, leaders of these 18 Opposition parties called off their march and returned to Parliament. They sought an appointment with the ED.

The Delhi Police increased security measures outside the ED office and imposed Section 144 around it.

On Wednesday morning, opposition leaders met in the office of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in the Parliament House complex to coordinate their joint strategy on the Adani issue. They decided to go to the ED office to submit a complaint and press for an investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg row.

The BJP termed it the “march of the corrupt”.

The Opposition is demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani-Hindenburg row. US short-seller Hindenburg Research had alleged that the Adani group was “engaged in brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud”, and used offshore shell companies to inflate stock prices.

The Adani group denied the allegations, calling them “malicious”, “baseless” and a “calculated attack on India”. The ruling BJP is not in favour of any JPC probe into the matter.
