Quake Hit Turkey Thanks “Dost” India for Humanitarian Aids

As India continues to dispatch batches of relief material and trained personnel for rescue operations to earthquake-hit Turkey, the country’s Ambassador to India Firat Sunel termed India as ‘dost’ and shared a Turkish proverb on ‘dosti’ or friendship.

In his Twitter post, Firat Sunel said, “Dost is a common word in Turkish and Hindi”. He quoted a Turkish proverb that means a friend in need is a friend indeed. Thank you very much India, he added.

“We appreciate quick and prompt response from India since it’s matter of life and death. Dost has the same meaning in Hindi and Turkey,” he said.

Firat Sunel had a meeting with NDRF officials and the Ministry of External Affairs.

A plane carrying rescue operations expert from India landed in Turkey on Tuesday morning. The second plane from India carrying 50 personnel and supplies also started for Turkey.

“PM Modi had a meeting with us. I also did a meeting with NDRF officials and MEA officials. We really appreciate the sincere and timely help of India,” Sunel added.

India’s first batch of shipment to Turkey aboard an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft included a search and rescue team of NDRF, highly-skilled dog squads, medical supplies, drilling equipment, and other crucial tools required for the aid efforts.

Added to it, the Indian Army on Tuesday mobilised a field hospital to provide medical support to the earthquake-affected people of Turkey. Agra-based Army Field Hospital dispatched an 89-member medical team to Turkey.  This medical team comprises critical care specialists, orthopaedic surgical teams, general surgical specialist team and medical specialist teams apart from others.

This field hospital is equipped with X-ray machines, ventilators, oxygen generation plant, cardiac monitors, and associated equipment to establish a 30-bedded medical facility.
