Ollywood Actor-Turned-Politician Anubhav Mohanty to Face Trial in Domestic Violence Case

Cuttack: The Cuttack Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) has dealt a blow to Ollywood actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty. On Tuesday, the court dismissed his discharge petition and directed the authorities to frame charges against him in a domestic violence case.

The allegations stem from a complaint filed by his former wife, Varsha Priyadarshini, who accused Anubhav and two friends of locking her up in a room at his Cuttack residence in December 2020. The incident occurred while the couple was embroiled in a divorce case. Fortunately, a police team intervened and rescued her from the situation.

The police registered a case under Sections 498A, 341, and 506 of the IPC against Anubhav and his associates based on Varsha’s complaint.

In December 2023, the Orissa High Court granted Anubhav a divorce from Varsha, overturning a previous decision by a Cuttack family court. The divorce was finalized in February 2024, a decade after their marriage.

Despite the personal turmoil, Anubhav has been active in politics. He recently switched his allegiance from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Although denied a ticket for the upcoming elections, Anubhav is campaigning for BJP candidates. Meanwhile, Varsha is contesting the elections from Odisha’s Barchana constituency on a BJD ticket
