Sachin Pilot Defies ‘Anti-Party Activity’ Chide; Sits on Daylong Fast in Rajasthan’s Jaipur

Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot defied the last night warning of his party to continue with his daylong protest fast in Jaipur. Through this protest he is targeting the Congress government in Rajasthan. The party’s top brass had warned him on Monday night that his proposed protest would be considered as an “anti-party activity”.

With a picture of Mahatma Gandhi as the backdrop of his dais, Sachin Pilot sat on protest fast at the “Shaheed Smarak Sthal”. His protest is aimed at his party rival and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot. Pilot alleges that Gehlot is reluctant to take any action against the BJP’s Vasundhara Raje’s corruption during the BJP rule in the state. This was a great embarrassment for the Congress in Rajasthan, where assembly polls are to be held after a few months.

The Gehlot government has denied Pilot’s allegations of inaction against corruption by the BJP. The Congress had tried its best to stop Sachin Pilot from taking up the protest fast.

“Sachin Pilot’s day-long fast on Tuesday is against the party interests and is anti-party activity. If there is any issue with his own government, it can be discussed in the party forums instead of in the media and public,” the Congress’s Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said in a statement on Monday.

Pilot’s recent agitation action against the corrupt, is being seen as a new leaf in the continuing tussle between him and Ashok Gehlot. It is being seen as his pressure tactics to corner Gehlot ahead of the assembly polls in Rajasthan.
