Search for Fugitive Amritpal: Khalistani Leader’s Family Interrogated, ‘getaway’ bike Seized

Chandigarh: ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh is yet to be nabbed despite the crackdown to arrest him, which entered the fifth day on Wednesday. Four persons, who allegedly helped the fugitive Khalistan preacher escape, were detained by Punjab police in Ludhiana On Wednesday. Police also recovered the bike that the Khalistani leader used in his escape plan. It was abandoned on the banks of a canal 45 km away from Jalandhar.

Officials of Punjab police interrogated Amritpal’s wife Kiran Deep Kaur at Punjab’s Jallupur Khera village, regarding the foreign funding allegations against him. His mother was also questioned.  Seven other people were also interrogated in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.

Punjab police claimed to have discovered connections between Amritpal Singh and Harvinder Singh Rinda, who was recently designated a proscribed terrorist by the Government of India. According to intelligence sources, Amritpal Singh was in contact with other Khalistani leaders and Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Police conducted search operations at gurdwaras, hotels, and in areas near the Indo-Nepal border in Udham Singh Nagar district of the state. A close vigil is being maintained at the India-Nepal border, to prevent the Khalistani leader from escaping to Nepal.
