400 Maoist Militias Surrender in Malkangiri District

Malkangiri: Around 400 Maoist militias surrendered before Odisha police in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district today. They burnt down Maoist uniforms and raised slogans against the violent organisation. The surrendered militias promised to never again support the naxalites.

The surrendered Maoist militias also included both males and females. Most of them were from Laugada, Paparmetla, and Dhuliput areas.

They reached the BSF camp at Laugada to surrender before officials of Odisha Police, BSF and district adminsitration. After the surrender, they claimed that they had been misled by the Maoists. They now wanted to lead a peaceful life by becoming catalysts in the developmental works being taken up in their region.

Militias are unarmed Maoist sympathizers, who help the naxalites by serving as their informers and providers of basic needs.
