2 Maoists Killed in Encounter in Boudh District

Bhubaneswar: Two Maoists were slain during an exchange of fire between the ultras and the security forces in the reserve forest under the Kantamal police station limits in Odisha’s Boudh district on Thursday morning.

According to reports, this gunfight occurred when the personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Odisha Police were conducting an anti-Maoist operation in the Parhel reserve forest on Thursday morning.

When the security forces stumbled upon the secret camp of the ultras, they fired at the SOG personnel. In the retaliatory firing by the security forces, two naxalites lost their lives.

When the exchange of fire stopped, the SOG jawans recovered two bodies of Maoists and also seized arms, grenades and other articles of Maoist use from the spot.

Combing operation has been intensified in the area as it is expected that some other Maoists may have been injured in the encounter.

According to sources, more than 20 naxalites had set up their camp at this remote spot in the Boudh district and were planning for some large scale violence ahead of the upcoming elections.
