Acid Attack Shakes Phulbani: 3 Sustain Critical Burns, Accused Nabbed

Phulbani: Three people, including a father and son, sustained critical burns after a brutal acid attack in Phulbani  on Thursday.

The assailant, identified as Pramod Sahu, was apprehended by locals who thrashed him inflicting injuries.

The victims, Chandra, Suraj, and Rakesh, have been admitted to District headquarters hospital, Phulbani, where they remain to be in critical condition and undergoing treatment.

The motive behind the acid attack remains unclear, with speculation suggesting a possible connection to past enmity, as Pramod, the attacker, had a history of involvement in a murder case and had recently been released from jail.

Town police, led by SDPO Suprasanna Mallick, initiated an investigation into the incident. Suraj, one of the victims, claimed that the attack was a retaliation for opposing Pramod’s previous involvement in selling contraband items to youngsters near the Chhak.

The authorities are considering Pramod’s criminal background as part of the ongoing investigation.
