Another cyber fraud in the name of electricity bill payment: 40 thousand rupees were taken from the woman

Berhampur: A cyber fraudster has defrauded a woman of Rs 40,000 in the name of an outstanding electricity bill payment. After such allegations, the police have registered a case in Berhampur cyber crime and economic crime police station and are investigating. It is revealed that on the last 16th, a message was received on the mobile of a woman living in the first line of Nilgoknagar.

It mentioned that if the outstanding electricity bill is not paid, the connection will be disconnected. After seeing the said message, the woman called the number in the message. The person who picked up the phone identified himself as an employee of the Electricity Department. With this, he explained to the woman to pay the electricity bill online. According to the cyber crook, the woman downloaded an app called Any-Desk on her mobile. The man then asked the woman to pay Rs 10 through a link sent by someone.

Accordingly, the woman paid Rs. 10 per person. After some time, Rs 40,000 was deducted from the woman’s bank account. After finding out that he was a victim of cyber fraud, he filed a complaint at Berhampur Cyber ​​Crime and Economic Crime Police Station. The police have filed a case against him and are investigating the incident. It is worth noting that in the last 5 days cyber fraudsters working as Deputy Executive Engineers in Berhampur Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) said that the electrical connection of the house will be disconnected. A total of 1 lakh 3 thousand 996 rupees were taken from Nageshwar Subudhi’s account on 7 occasions. Similarly, on the last 6th, a total of 1 lakh 91 thousand 55 rupees was cheated by cybermen by making 14 transactions from her bank account in the name of paying the outstanding electricity bill of a woman of Berhampur Khalasi Sahi. In this regard, cyber crime and economic crime have been charged in the police station.
