Cyclone ‘Mocha’ Likely To Head Towards Bangladesh-Myanmar Coasts: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that a low-pressure area has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea.

As per the weather agency, Mocha is likely to intensify into a depression on the 9th of May over the same region and further into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of East Central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea on the 10th of May.

It is likely to move initially north-northwestwards towards the east-central Bay of Bengal till 11th May. Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually and move north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts, the IMD predicted.

The system will be named as Cyclone ‘Mocha’ if it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.
