Two Express Trains Collide In Odisha’s Balasore; Over 50 Feared Dead, 300 Injured

Balasore: In a devastating incident, a major train accident occurred in Odisha when the Coromandel Express collided with derailed coaches from another train. This collision resulted in the derailment of approximately eight to ten bogies, leaving around 300 individuals injured. The tragic event took place near Bahanaga Bazar station, located in the Balasore district, at approximately 7.20 pm.

The Coromandel Express, en route from Shalimar station near Kolkata to Chennai Central station, encountered the derailed bogies of the Yashwantpur-Howrah Express. Swift action was taken by authorities, who promptly dispatched multiple ambulances to the scene. The injured passengers are currently being transferred to a community health centre in Soro, as reported by officials. Additionally, accident relief trains have been deployed to the site to provide assistance and aid in rescue operations.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the state government has issued directives to the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action (ODRAF) Force, instructing them to collaborate in the ongoing rescue efforts. The ODRAF’s specialized personnel and resources will contribute to the comprehensive rescue and relief operations in the affected area.

This unfortunate train accident has resulted in significant damage and casualties, underscoring the importance of swift and coordinated response from both the local authorities and emergency services.
