Gold Chain Snatching Gang Busted by Odisha Police; 4 Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Commissionerate Police made a significant breakthrough by apprehending four members of the notorious “Bawaria Gang” from Uttar Pradesh. This gang was involved in a series of gold chain snatching cases targeting morning walkers in various cities of Odisha including the capital.

The diligent probe conducted by the police revealed that the gang operated across multiple cities in Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack City, Bhubaneswar, and Puri. They were wanted in connection with a staggering 28 cases spread across various police districts in the state.

The gang operated by using stolen motorcycles and tampering with their number plates to avoid detection. They would swiftly snatch gold chains from unsuspecting victims and quickly flee the scene. To evade capture, the gang members frequently changed their location, staying in hotels and disposing of the stolen gold in Uttar Pradesh.

During the arrest, the police seized 16 gold chains, two motorcycles, and multiple mobile phones. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend other members of the gang and recover additional stolen items.

The “Bawaria Gang” is notorious for its involvement in a wide range of crimes, including murder, rape, robberies, and chain snatchings. Their criminal activities have instilled fear in both villagers and commuters.

The Odisha Commissionerate Police is determined to bring all members of the gang to justice and curb the criminal activities that have plagued the region.
